LiveBusiness.ca
Privacy policy
Last updated: October 22, 2026
This policy explains what personal information LiveBusiness.ca (“we”, “us”) collects, why, how we use and protect it, and the choices you have. We handle personal information in line with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, where it applies, Quebec’s privacy law (Law 25).
1. A directory of businesses, not of people
LiveBusiness.ca publishes business information: business names, addresses, phone numbers, websites, descriptions and similar details that owners provide or that are publicly available. We do not sell personal information, and we do not publish or share the personal information of our visitors or account holders as a directory.
Please do not put personal information in a listing. If a business is run by one person and you use a home address, personal phone number or personal email as your business contact details, they will be shown publicly and may be indexed by search engines. Use business contact details whenever you can.
2. Information we collect
- Account information: your name, email address and password (stored only in encrypted form). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and Google account identifier from Google.
- Listing information: the business details and images you submit or claim, and the contact name or email you provide for review and ownership checks.
- Messages: messages you send through the contact form or the contact form on a listing, with your name and email address.
- Payment records: the plan purchased, amount, date and PayPal transaction reference. Card and PayPal account details are handled by PayPal and are never stored by us.
- Technical information: IP address, browser type, pages viewed and similar server logs, collected automatically for security, fraud prevention and troubleshooting.
- Location (only if you use “Near me”): your browser asks your permission before sharing your location. We use it only to show nearby businesses; we round it, do not store it, and do not link it to you.
- Cookies: we use essential cookies to keep you signed in and to secure the sign-in process. With your consent we also use Google Analytics, which sets cookies and sends information such as the pages you view, your approximate location, and your device and browser to Google, to help us understand how the Site is used. Google may process this information on servers outside Canada, including in the United States. Analytics stays off unless you click “Accept” in the cookie banner, and you can change your choice at any time with “Cookie settings” in the footer. To protect our forms from automated abuse we use Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that a visitor is a real person and may process technical information such as your IP address and browser details. We do not use advertising cookies.

3. Why we use it
- To create and run your account and publish, review and manage listings.
- To process payments, issue receipts and apply plans.
- To send service emails: account and listing updates, review decisions, receipts, expiry reminders and replies to your messages. These are required to provide the service.
- To deliver messages that visitors send to a listing owner.
- To keep the Site secure, prevent spam and fraud, and meet legal obligations.
- To maintain and improve the Site.
We will not use your information for a new purpose without your consent or a legal basis for it.
4. Consent
When you register, claim a listing or submit or edit a listing, we ask you to confirm that you agree to this policy and, for listings, to the public display of the business information you provide. You may withdraw consent at any time by contacting us (see section 10); withdrawing may mean we can no longer provide some features, such as keeping a listing published.
We do not send marketing emails without your separate, express consent. You can withdraw that consent at any time through the unsubscribe link in the message or by contacting us.
5. Who we share it with
We do not sell personal information. We share it only as follows:
- Service providers that help us run the Site: website hosting and email delivery, Google (sign-in, Maps, address suggestions, fonts) and PayPal (payments). They may use the information only to provide their service to us.
- Listing owners: the name, email address and message you send through a listing’s contact form go to that business.
- Legal reasons: where required by law, a court order, or to protect rights, safety and security.
- Business changes: if the Site is sold or reorganized, information may be transferred to the new owner under this policy.
6. Where information is stored
Our service providers may store and process information in Canada or in other countries, including the United States and the European Union. When information is processed outside your province or Canada, it may be subject to the laws of that place, including access by courts and authorities there. We take reasonable steps, such as contracts and access controls, to protect it.
7. How long we keep it
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above. Account information is kept while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards. Listing information is kept while the listing is published. Payment records are kept as long as the law requires for accounting and tax purposes, normally up to seven years. Server logs are kept for a short period. After that, we delete or anonymize information.
8. Security
We use safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, access limits and review of changes to listings. No online service is completely secure. If a breach creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected people and the authorities as the law requires.
9. Your rights
You may ask us to: tell you what personal information we hold about you; correct it; delete it; or stop using it for a purpose you did not agree to. Quebec residents may also have rights to portability and to ask about automated decisions. We do not make decisions about you using only automated processing.
You can update most account and listing details yourself in your account. For anything else, or to ask for a listing to be removed or corrected, write to privacy@livebusiness.ca. We will confirm your identity, then respond, normally within 30 days.
10. Privacy contact and complaints
Our privacy contact is reachable at privacy@livebusiness.ca. If we cannot resolve your concern, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, for Quebec residents, the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec.
11. Children
The Site is for businesses and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of majority in their province or territory without a parent’s or guardian’s consent. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The date at the top shows the latest version. For significant changes we will give notice on the Site or by email.
